So I started a blog today.
What do I talk about?
I honestly have no idea.
It’s mostly just rambling.
A lot of rambling.
Kind of like I’m doing now.
So, let’s get started, shall we?
I’m really interested in something called LARP. It means Live Action Role Play, kind of like D&D but in real life. I’m not sure if that makes it more or less nerdy.
You make some medieval story, like “Go get the Emerald from Mount Khanahakalakan” or “Charge the Castle and Make the King Surrender”. Then you actually act them out.
This is the fun part.
This is the part where you get dressed up in rubber armor, and run out screaming to hit each other with foam swords. It looks like a really badly done action movie, but with less guns and more foam swords.
Sounds like fun, right?
Actually, yes it is. It is a lot of fun. I know it must sound like a nerd’s fantasy, but if you’ve ever been interested in D&D, or medieval knights, or anything like that, you can actually act it out. The best part is, you can do it with other people without getting shunned by society for being “weird” or “a nerd” (I will continue to use the word “nerd” throughout this, just push through it).
So, the only problem is, there are no LARPs in my area. and you might think, “No problem, why not go somewhere else?” Well, it’s not just a couple hours to the nearest LARP. It’s about a two day drive. And I was thinking about starting my own LARP here, to possibly open it up to other people as well, but then I looked online. I saw what the average LARP would consist of, and I thought, you know, I had the perfect spot to do it in, I could probably get a newspaper ad, and wait for all the hidden nerds to come out of the shadows and show who they really are.
The price point came up to about $600.
I can’t just come up with that kind of money, especially for a hobby. I could deal with getting stuff for me and one or two friends, but a whole group of people? People I don’t even know, that might break the stuff the first time playing?
I don’t know, what do you think? Should I try to start a LARP? Do you think it’s worth it? I mean, it would be really fun, but with all of the upkeep, I’m worried I wouldn’t be able to keep it up.
Anyway, I’ve rambled for way too long (As referenced on the front page and beginning of this blog), and I think it’s time to publish this.
LARPing and rambling,
See you tomorrow.
